Bon Iver: Music at its Finest

It's official, we can now check one thing off our summer list. We went to Red Butte Gardens for the Bon Iver show. Red Butte is a very relaxed venue; it was fantastic for Bon Iver. The bass was reverberating off the amphitheater walls and the wind made the trees dance as our friend Aaron said.

From the start the set was amazing. With harmonies that would impress anyone, Bon Iver put on an amazing show. Justin Vernon was quite articulate at the mic, at least until he started singing. Chris thinks that the show sets a record for the number of guitars used. By the end of the second song there were already ten guitar exchanges. Probably the best concert Chris has ever been to. Jennifer was equally impressed. Bon Iver is an outstanding bunch of musicians.

We continued our last summer tradition of ending our concert experience by eating Jennifer's favorite food in Salt Lake City: street tacos. We washed that down with 7/11 Super Big Gulp sized Blue Powerade and berry Sour Patch Kids. By the way, berry Sour Patch Kids are not as good as the originals.

The Collection Begins

While in Zion, we decided that we wanted to start a collection that would highlight the places we've been. The collection needed to be something consistent that we could get just about anywhere. Spoons? Too old fashioned. Golf balls? We don't golf. Keychains? Kind of tacky. T shirts? Unoriginal. Playing cards? Chris doesn't like card games.

So what did we decide on?

That's right shot glasses. The classy collection.

I mean sure we don't drink alcohol, but we like plenty of other drinks in small portions. There it is, the first installment of our collection.

Lessons Learned

In the few weeks of our marriage there have already been many lessons. One man's trash is another man's treasure, was the lesson for today.

Yes, Jennifer is teaching Chris the art of dumpster diving.

After a delicious dinner, we had a hankering for some baked goods. Exhaustion from the day and our morning bike was setting in so baking something ourselves seemed out of the question. Naturally, we went to a bakery. Unfortunately, or fortunately, the bakery had closed an hour earlier. Thanks to Jennifer's super smeller and past dumpster diving experience, we headed for the dumpster. We were rewarded with delicious orange and cinnamon rolls, nicely wrapped in a box.   Sure they were a little stale, but free is better than not free any day.
